Applications Due April 19, 2018

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is now accepting applications for 2018 Good Food Access Program (GFAP) Equipment and Physical Improvement Grants. A total of $135,000 is available to assist grocery stores and small food retailers purchase equipment or make physical improvements that will increase availability of and access to affordable, nutritious and culturally appropriate foods. Projects must be located in or serve food deserts and populations such as the elderly or people with disabilities in low- and moderate-income areas.

CSA memberships offer many benefits, including subscriptions to healthy foods, the ability to connect with a local farmer, and the opportunity to directly support an agricultural business.

Funds Available for Youth Education or Community Development

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) announces $250,000 in grant funding for urban youth agricultural education or urban agriculture community development. The AGRI Urban Agriculture grant program is available to for-profit businesses, non-profit organizations, schools, Native American tribal communities, and local government entities.

Projects Will Bring Agriculture and Food System Themes to the Classroom

St. Paul, MN: Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC) and the MATIC Foundation have announced the recipients of this year’s Agricultural Literacy Grants. Grants of up to $1,000 were awarded to one 4-H program, two FFA chapters, and 11 teachers to encourage them to make agriculture and food systems education part of school curricula.

Cost-Share Support Scales Business, Strengthens Economy

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) will host 17 food companies at the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco, January 21-23. The MDA’s Agricultural Growth, Research and Innovation (AGRI) New Markets cost-share program will provide discounted booth space, on-site support, and other services throughout the national specialty food event.

Award sponsors travel expenses to 2018 National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference

St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC) Foundation is proud to honor Laporte teacher Amy Mastin with the 2018 MAITC Outstanding Teacher Award. Ms. Mastin will receive $500 and up to $1,500 to cover travel expenses to attend the 2018 National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference.
